Community Theatre To Present A Wildly Theatrical Experience (For Mature Audiences)

Bucyrus Little Theatre is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Bat Boy: The Musical. This darkly comedic and heartfelt show promises to captivate audiences with its unique blend of humor, horror, and humanity. Directed by Scott Leon Smith and sponsored by MonsterVox Productions, this production features a story and book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming, with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe, licensed under agreement with Weekly World News. Due to mature themes and language, this show is recommended for mature audiences only.

Bat Boy: The Musical tells the story of Edgar, a half-boy, half-bat creature discovered in a cave. He struggles to find acceptance in a small town filled with prejudice, fear, and secrets. With unforgettable songs and a cast of vibrant characters, this production explores themes of identity, belonging, and the human condition in a way that’s both thrilling and thought-provoking.

Saturday Performances Moved To The Afternoon To Accommodate Local Homecoming Dances

“We’re excited to bring this bold and unconventional musical to Bucyrus,” said director Scott Smith. “Our cast, especially our talented high school students, has poured their hearts into this production. To accommodate their Homecoming schedules at Wynford and Colonel Crawford High Schools, we’ve shifted our Saturday performances to 2 p.m. matinees. This shift will allow our younger performers to shine on stage and still enjoy their school festivities.”

Bucyrus Little Theatre is proud to foster a thriving teenage presence in its productions. We are committed to accommodating their busy schedules. In celebration of local Homecoming festivities, Bucyrus Little Theatre invites high school students to attend the Saturday matinee performances in their formal wear—homecoming dresses or tuxedos—to receive a free box of popcorn.

“We are really encouraging our local students to make a day of it,” said Abigail Kanellakis, Bucyrus Little Theatre president. “Get dressed up, enjoy a live theatrical performance, and then head out to a nice dinner before the dance. There was a time when patrons would always dress up to go to the theatre. It’s just what they did. It’s what was expected. Why not bring some of that tradition back for Bat Boy during this year’s Homecoming celebrations?”
